Upzone downtown to make it feasible to build affordable homes in Menlo Park.
Menlo Together envisions a Menlo Park that is integrated and diverse, multi-generational, and environmentally sustainable. We believe that this can be achieved by placing more homes near downtown, especially homes that are affordable to people of all incomes and abilities.
City-owned land (i.e. surface parking lots) downtown is the best available resources Menlo Park has when it comes to building 100% affordable homes for lower-income community members. The city must make it easy to build homes on city-owned land for lower-income community members and must also make it easier to put homes throughout downtown for people of all incomes.
Therefore, we urge the Menlo Park City Council to:
Allow up to eight floors for new homes downtown.
