This panel highlights effective strategies like storytelling and inclusive design charrettes to engage communities in architecture and development, fostering stronger designs and connections.

 

Empowering Communities in Housing Governance
May 6

Embark on a transformative journey into local housing policy change that explores an innovative model that facilitates community and government collaboration and develops trusting, effective partnerships for creating and implementing equitable housing policies.

 

Tenant Protections in Rural Communities
May 8

This presentation will provide an audience with the common struggles of low-income tenants, including farmworkers, in rural areas and the necessity for stronger tenants’ rights protection in unincorporated areas of San Mate County.

 

 

Implementing Displacement Housing Preferences via Digital Applications
May 9

This session will explore the implementation of housing preferences in Berkeley through the Doorway Housing Portal, facilitating seamless digital applications and better outreach to eligible families, with speakers from the City of Berkeley, Healthy Black Families, and Resources for Community Development.

Menlo Park Housing Resource Fair
May 11

The City of Menlo Park will sponsor a resource fair on Saturday, May 11! The fair would include affordable housing providers, including our partner organizations like MidPen and HIP Housing, Project Sentinel, Samaritan House, LifeMoves, Legal Aid, and more!

 

Housing is Environmental Justice
May 13

This session will highlight current efforts to ensure multiple mobility options for affordable housing residents through alternative approaches that do not require the construction of additional bundled parking spaces dedicated to specific units.

📋Housing Elements Review📋

 

Last Tuesday, April 23, San Mateo County’s Board of Supervisors voted to submit a new draft of its housing element to HCD. More than any other jurisdiction in the region, the County itself made substantial updates to its housing element in response to community input between the release of its first and second drafts.

County’s plans from the January 2023 housing element draft for rezoning in unincorporated Colma to 60-87 du/ac.

 County’s updated April 2024 housing element plans to rezone a larger area of unincorporated Colma to 100 du/ac, expanded at the request of Supervisor David Canepa. 

 

Housing and the Coastal Zone
