URGENT: Project Homekey in San Mateo County
🤝Action: Support Affordable Rooms!

We have good news and bad news about “Project Homekey” in San Mateo County.

  • The good news is the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved (with final certification of) 170 rooms, in Redwood City, for those who are at-risk or experiencing homelessness. The County is looking to purchase an additional 52 rooms in Half Moon Bay, at next Tuesday morning meeting.
  • The bad news is there is already significant opposition to these rooms in Half Moon Bay, which are meant to shelter people.

👉 What You Can Do: Will you help support these 52 affordable rooms?

  • We could really use your help here. Although we could really use some public speakers we understand not everyone is available at 9 am. You can send an email of support to: boardfeedback@smcgov.org
  • You can also make a greater impact with less than a minute! If you could share this email with just 1 friend or family member, you will be doubling the impact that can be made.

Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA):
Update, Thank You, Upcoming Events

We’d like to give a big thank you to everyone who submitted their written statements in support of Methodology 8A, using the Plan Bay Area 2050 Households blueprint to the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG)! The public comment period regarding the upcoming 6th cycle of the Regional Housing Needs Allocation officially closed last week on Friday, November 27th.

All of our comments will be taken into consideration by the Regional Planning Committee (RPC) on this date and a recommendation will be made to the ABAG Executive Committee. Take action with us by attending this meeting to continue advocating for a San Mateo where all of our community members can have access to a safe and secure place to live.

Continue to Support HLC!

At the end of this extraordinary year, we at Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County are grateful for your partnership. You’ve given us time, energy and money to help us help others. With your support, we will continue to increase the availability of affordable housing as a direct and meaningful solution that will strengthen public health conditions, address racial inequities, and combat climate change.

We hope you will join us, as we continue to build our movement and push for public policies that will lead everyone in our County to a safe and decent home.

Sincerely,

HLC staff and board members

Arturo and Donna are Habitat homeowners featured in our housing tour. They are more than neighbors – they are family who are supporting each other through the current pandemic. They are thankful for the homes they built together that have enabled their kids to flourish, and are now keeping their families safe and hopeful.
