The Tax Credit and Bond Committees (CDLAC/CTCAC) are deciding the rules of the road for next year through their regulation update process. HLC and our partners are concerned that the highest priority developments – homes that will serve the homeless, or families who are extremely low income, have not been adequately prioritized through the scoring system.

We’d like support in messaging that the pandemic and economic disruption have disproportionately impacted communities of color and people and families at the bottom of income spectrum. This is the opportunity we have: the committee could choose to make sure two of the state’s best vehicles for production remain committed to homes for Homeless and Extremely Low income. Our local Cities and County have worked hard to position new homes—through land use, entitlements, and by creating local sources to fund affordable homes—and we need the State’s partnership in financing our highest priorities: serving those who are most vulnerable.

📣 Attention: Redwood City Residents

We are starting a private Nextdoor group for housers in Redwood City! Yep that’s right. We’re taking Nextdoor back from the NIMBYs! If you are interested in being a part of our pro-housing Nextdoor group, email Alex at amelendrez@hlcsmc.org.

We want to create a space to keep people informed about upcoming proposals, take action on housing in Redwood City, start discussions, have fun, and connect with one another.

A Message from Leora Tanjuatco Ross, Associate Director

It’s official. The voters of San Mateo are evenly divided about height limits and growth. We fell 43 votes short of repealing the existing height and density limits in San Mateo.

Twenty-three thousand San Mateans voted to increase height and densities, to embrace affordable housing, and make San Mateo a more equitable place. This is a victory, and we can’t lose sight of the progress we made.

Thank you to every single volunteer who dedicated their weekends to phone banking, ballot curing, sign-waving, and talking to their neighbors. We needed every single ounce of your passion, and appreciate it every day. ❤️
