Black History Month Housing Justice = Racial Justice |
|
“During this Black History Month, and for many to come, we must never forget the dream—and fight for a new inheritance, one woven not of exclusion but instead of that universal human spirit that calls us each home.” - Dr. Raphael Bostic. This Black History Month, HLC would like to recognize that Housing Justice is Racial Justice. Unequal access to housing has historically included discriminatory policies like redlining, segregation and exclusion of Black Americans. Did you know that out of 67,000 mortgages insured by the G.I. bill after WWII, less than 100 went to Black veterans? Black people have been, and continue to be, disproportionately excluded from stable housing and economic growth. It is our job to work collectively to ensure equal access to Housing for all… “... because we know, deep down in our American bones, that home matters. We know that home is wealth. That home is family. That home is freedom.” - Dr. Raphael Bostic Learn more: |
