Daly City - Serramonte del Rey

HLC would like to give a big “THANK YOU!” to our leaders on the Daly City City Council who voted to move ahead with the environmental review of the Serramonte Del Rey Proposal by the Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD) on Monday (1/10) night!

We all thrive when we can live near our place of work, reducing the stress on our existing infrastructure as well as reducing the time and expense of commuting. This decision brings us that much closer to this goal by allowing JUHSD to finally begin the crucial next step of looking for an affordable housing developer - who can draw up plans for the 1.8 acre dedicated site for affordable homes.

Stay tuned for more updates in our newsletter and emails.

Redwood City - Study Session on the Proposed Anti-Displacement Strategy

On Monday (1/10) night, the Redwood City City Council heard a report from Staff on holding a study session on a potential anti-displacement strategy. Our partners from Faith in Action identified 3 key priorities that were missing and needed addressing: 1) restrict renovation evictions and establishing a right to return for renovation-related evictions, 2) adopt anti-harassment policies and 3) establish a rental relations office.

The majority of City Council were in support of further study for the first two items and the exploration of partnering but voiced their concerns over Staff capacity. To help mitigate their workload, Leadership suggested that the City partner with our local non-profits specializing in legal work around housing.

RESCHEDULED: San Mateo County One Day Homeless Count

Due to the current COVID-19 surges, the One Day Count has been rescheduled to February 24, 2022, with new COVID-19 safety protocols in place.

Although the event has been rescheduled, you DO NOT need to re-register to volunteer.

The San Mateo County Human Services Agency (HSA), in close collaboration with community partners, conducts the bi-annual One Day Homeless Count and Survey. The purpose of the One Day Homeless Count and Survey is to gather information to help the community understand homelessness in San Mateo County. This is one data set, among others, that provides information for effective planning of services to assist people experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness.
