On behalf of the Housing Leadership Council, thank you to all who joined us for Housing Leadership Day 2024! We are thrilled to share the remarkable success of our 24th Annual Housing Leadership Day Conference, which marked a historic milestone as our first fully bilingual conference. The conference brought together an impressive cross-section of over 200 members of our community to engage in rich discussions spanning policy, programs, and engaging the community in meaningful ways. In a groundbreaking step forward in HLC’s commitment to language justice, all nine workshops were simultaneously delivered in both Spanish and English, ensuring that critical housing information and resources were accessible to our diverse community. This achievement reflects our dedication to ensuring that everyone has a voice in shaping the future of housing in our region. The success of this year's bilingual conference sets a new standard for inclusivity in our housing advocacy work. We are committed to building on this achievement and continuing to expand access to critical housing discussions and resources. Thank you to our speakers, workshop presenters, volunteers, sponsors, and especially to all attendees who made this conference a true reflection of our community's diversity and shared commitment to housing justice. We invite you to visit our online photo gallery to relive the spirit of collaboration and community that made this conference special. San Mateo County voters showed strong support for housing measures this November. Measure T in San Mateo, aimed at increasing building heights and densities near businesses and transit, passed with 58.7% at the time of this writing. Measure JJ in East Palo Alto, mandating certain tax revenues be allocated for housing, won with a supermajority. We are also excited to work with the many pro-housing elected officials who won their races. Though Prop 5 is likely to fail statewide, we are grateful to all the community organizations and residents who supported it in San Mateo County. Prop 33, which would have overturned state restrictions of renter protections and allowed unrestricted rent control, failed by a wide margin, highlighting the need to broaden housing advocacy efforts.
