| | Prop 5 gives local voters more power to address the affordable housing and public infrastructure needs in their communities. California voters strongly support building housing that is affordable for low- and middle-income families and developing the public infrastructure needed to support new housing, like roads and transit, water, and fire stations. But state law currently restricts the ability of local voters to approve local housing and public infrastructure bonds for their communities. Prop 5 empowers local voters to approve bonds for affordable housing, critical public infrastructure, and emergency response in our communities with a 55% vote – if those bonds have strict accountability and oversight. | 🏘️Yes on T for a Thriving San Mateo |
| High housing costs force longtime residents, essential workers, and young families to leave because they can’t afford to stay. Measure T, on the ballot this November, will empower the city council to rezone for denser housing in some parts of the city, a first step toward overturning San Mateo’s exclusionary height and density cap. Opportunities to support Measure T |
| | HLC opposes Prop 33, which would allow cities to discriminate against new apartment homes.. Prop 33 would empower cities to implement limitless rent control, with no exemption for new housing. A Huntington Beach city council member said he supports Prop 33 because “It gives local governments ironclad protections from the state’s housing policy.” Opportunities exist to improve state rent control laws, but voters should reject this measure for its potential to stymie housing. |
