Jefferson Union High School District proposes Affordable Homes in Daly City!

From our partner Kalisha Webster at Housing Choices:
"As part of a master plan to develop the 22-acre site of the former Serramonte Del Rey High School, the Jefferson Union High School District (JUHSD) has proposed to include a 100% affordable housing project with some units subject to a preference for people with developmental disabilities who will benefit from the coordinated onsite services offered by Housing Choices and the Golden Gate Regional Center.

The draft Precise Plan for the site envisions the development of 1.235 units of affordable and market rate housing, including 122 units of housing for faculty and staff of the High School District that are nearing completion of construction. The remaining 1,113 housing units will include at least 111 units on a parcel dedicated to inclusive affordable housing and a Head Start center. The development is phased to be completed over a ten-year period."

“It’s inspiring to imagine the day when JUHSD graduates with developmental disabilities will be able to put their post-secondary education in independent living into practice in affordable housing located in their home community.”

📋Housing Elements Review📋

Welcome to HLC's first housing element review! From now on, we'll be sharing updates on housing elements across San Mateo County in every newsletter. Check back here for information on meeting times, surveys, commentary, and other opportunities to help your city plan for new housing.

Some background: Housing elements are one of the most powerful tools we have to promote affordable housing. Every city in California has a housing element, documents that govern all housing-related decisions within a city. Cities are required to update their housing elements every eight years in order to plan for new housing development at all levels of affordability.

Across the Bay Area, cities are currently updating their housing element plans for the 2023-2031 cycle. In San Mateo County, cities are expected to plan for 47,688 units of housing, approximately 40% of which are supposed to be affordable to low- and very low-income households.

✧San Mateo Housing Elements Draft is here

Yesterday morning, the City of San Mateo released its first draft housing element. The housing element will have a 30-day public comment period, lasting until May 6. San Mateo’s planning commission will review the housing element for the first time on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m.

Send in public comments by April 22 so planning commissioners have time to review your comments before their meeting.
