The Eviction Moratorium Expired! What now?

Our cities and counties must act urgently to address the consequences of the end of the eviction moratorium, which ended September 30th. The eviction cliff will disproportionately affect Black, Indigeous, Latinx, and Pacific Islander communities--communities that have already been facing discrimination, housing instability and health inequity at a greater rate than others. To address these issues, a broad network of nearly 50 organizations across the Bay Area have outlined eight essential actions that local governments should take to prepare for the September 30th eviction cliff and the end of foreclosure protections.

Participate in YOUR City's Housing Element

Why are our housing prices so high, and how did we get here? What does “housing affordability” mean? How is it measured? Who needs affordable housing?

Each San Mateo County community is currently updating its Housing Element – a housing plan that is part of every jurisdiction’s General Plan – and we need your informed perspective.

This series on Creating a More Affordable Future will help you learn more about the problem and possible solutions for our communities. Register to attend here!

Public Land for Public Good đźŹ—️

Over 1,200 homes (100 affordable) and a new preschool for low-income families needs your voice.

What? The Jefferson Union High School District has a plan to create new homes, a new preschool, and to double the amount of green space. Click here to learn more.

Why? Opposition came out strong at the last city council meeting and we need to come out even stronger.

When? City council will vote on this proposal at their October 25th regular meeting at 7pm on Zoom. If we don’t get three “yes” votes, the plan would be delayed for several years.

Sign our petition TODAY to tell City Council that you support affordable homes and childcare. There are 3,000 signatures in opposition, so every signature counts!

Tell Stanford to Build Homes in Belmont

Late last month, Stanford University announced that it intends to purchase Notre Dame de Namur University’s (NDNU) campus in Belmont and will have the exclusive right to negotiate a deal through 2025. This is an opportunity to create affordable homes for our community members!

In the meantime, Stanford is currently input from the City of Belmont and local residents. Send your comments to belmontcampus@stanford.edu to let the University know that you want to see affordable housing on the NDNU campus today!
